SYC Open Day, Training in Sydney, New Coach now Official

After a Great Opening Day down at SYC I thought I would Update you all on my latest training leading into London. Sydney Camps, AIS Camps, NTC Opening and the latest on my new coach Laura Baldwin.

I am back and definitely into the swing of things. I am now full time training in the Gym at VIS and on-water sessions down at SYC.
The Perth Worlds (Olympic Qualifiers) are only 63 Days away so the focus is purely on sailing.

Over the past week I traveled up to Sydney for a Laser Camp with the full rig boys and Michael Blackburn (Guru Laser Coach).  We had a tough week of four hour days of hiking & downwinds.

On the Friday was the National Training Centre Opening Day at Middle Harbour Yacht Club. The AIS/ Australian Sports Commission has funded a great facility just for the AST. We have a sports analysts & coaches room, boat storage & workshop, lockers and debrief room. The only problem is the tricky launching which I am sure is the next step in the project.

On the Saturday was the AST family day and then on Sunday we made our way down to Canberra for the Australian Institute of Sport Camp. We then had individual team meetings with management, team building that was focused on ‘Winning Spirit‘ and we also made use of the AIS gym facilities.

Great News is that over the past couple of weeks final decisions have been made and Laura Baldwin is my coach heading into Perth. We make a formidable team which was demonstrated at the Test Event. Laura is an ex-Olympian 2004, who has been coached by some of the greatest sailors in our sport. Paul Goodison, Ed Wright, Hugh Styles, David Howlett, RYA athlete. She has grown up in Weymouth (Venue of Olympics 2012), knowing the ins and outs of Portland Harbour.

We are now on the count down to London, less then 300 days to go.
