Day One of Australian Laser Nationals

Krystal finishes day one with two seconds and currently sits 4th overall

We had a great day on the water with 15-20knot SE for day one of the RQYS Australian Laser Nationals on Morton Bay. We have 70+ boats competing so there are two fleets for Qualifying before we get into Gold/ Silver finals.

My goal for this event is to step up my starts as it was a clear point to work on after de-briefing from the worlds in Perth. The first race of the day was 15knots, shifty and choppy so full hiking conditions. I had a great start from the boat end and extended on the fleet, I tacked back towards the middle of the course too early loosing my leverage.  There was a young russian sailor Maxim Nikolaev, who took it harder left then I did and rounded ahead. Race one down and a second place.

Race Two: same scenario with a much tighter battle with Tristan Brown of WA and a young NZL sailor Andrew McKenzie. I have definitely found my downwind speed and was able to catch up after the first mark rounding. Finsihing the race again in second place.

Should be overall an exciting week as the forecast is to stay windy until after New Years
