Krystal Selected for Olympic Test Event & Australian Sailing Team

It has been a great trip so far with a great result in Kiel, which helped in my selection onto the Australian Sailing Team and the Olympic Team test event spot. I have just returned from a weeks sailing in Finland. We had the European Championships for all classes based out of Helsinki. It was a tough regatta with mostly light conditions under 5knots. I had an up and down championship finishing 12th overall. I am happy with my result in these trying conditions. It was an exciting trip back down to the UK as our car has a mind of its own and decides to start when it wants to. We took each stage of the trip on bit by bit, keeping it a “flexible” program...

Krystal Finishes 2nd in ISAF Grade One KIEL

Krystal finishes 2nd in ISAF Grade One, Kiel Germany. Kieler Woche Regatta in Germany was a tough event, with 15+knots in shifty, pre-frontal conditions. Overall I am happy with my racing, there were a few moments through the regatta where I could have consolidated my position. It was a very high scoring event with Paige USA, Tatiana BLR and Tina CRO. There was also a good group of Germans competing. This regatta was the final event for the Olympic Test Event Selection for Australia. With this recent result it has qualified me for the Australian Sailing Team (AST) & Test event in Weymouth (August). I want to thank the Kampen Family for helping me throughout the week and also my coach Nocka for all his help and input. I...

Epic Trip- Axle broke on our trailer UK to Germany

Traveling across Europe is always testing at times, as we load all our boats, coach boats, bikes, sailing masts onto our cars and trek across Europe. This time we just took it all too far. We had two lasers double stacked ontop of the car with a coach boat and laser on a very small trailer traveling on the back. Late into our trip with only 160km to go before hitting Hamburg to pick up Nocka from the airport, black smoke hammered out of the back of the car, with the smell of burning rubber. I jumped on the breaks, and pulled over on the A1 Motorway ...

Sail For Gold 13th Overall

Krystal finishes 13th overall. Sail For Gold in Weymouth, UK has just finished and final results are in. I ended up 13th overall with 3 points off Medal race. Overall I am happy with my finals performance as I improved through out the racing. A few key decisions around marks and some more time in the gym is required to get up to scratch. On the third day of racing, I had an incident with an Argentinean on a layline and head butted the deck, the next day i went out and did it again in exactly the same spot. I had a massive egg on my head and a black eye. The next day I went out with tape around my head, very fashionably i looked...

Krystal European Trip One Update

I am back in Melbourne training out of Sandringham for the next Olympic Trial in Weymouth UK. I have just returned from a whirlwind trip that included Spain, Greece and France. My first event was in Palma Mallorca in April, after some exciting logistics I was ready to race. I had a very up and down event in Palma with some great results, my final day of racing didn’t go to plan which took me down the score card from 9th to 22nd overall. I then travelled down to Hyeres for some training with young Sam Meech of New Zealand. We had an intense week of training mainly working on my downwind speed. By the end of the week my confidence was back and I...

It requires at lot of fitness and balance. The whole regatta was non-planning so it really put me to the test" The windsurfing program run by Brendan Todd is really developing with a great turnout of youths on Bic Techno and RSX.
