It has been a hectic couple of months since my last update. I returned from the UK after ‘Sail for Gold’ regatta and jumped straight back into University. Assignments, Exams, Hospital Placement at Prince of Wales Hospital, this has been my life for the past 6 months. Physiotherapy work at Sydney Uni has now finished and it is time to start full time training for the upcoming Laser season. In amongst the study I was able to do training from Double Bay Sailing Club and Middle Harbour Amateurs, compete in the Australian University Games and the recent NSW States Titles. Sail For Gold 2010

Sail For Gold has proved to be a very positive event for me leading into a training block over the next three months. It was disappointing to not get into the Medal Race due to a blackflag on the last race but the benefits far outway it.   I had a mixed regatta with plenty of ups and downs. After only having been back in the class for 6months it is encourageing to be up there with the best girls in the world. Sail for Gold 3rd and 8th on Day One

I finished today with a 3rd and 8th at Sail For Gold, UK. We had a great breeze from the SW at 15knots. I started the regatta with a great start and first work upwind, I was able to hold off the other girls and finish with a third. The second race wasnt so straight forward as I had a bad start. I then climbed my way back to 5th before heading the wrong way on the downwind as I sliped back to 11th. On the last lap I climbed up to finish 8th. I was able to practice and learn a few new tricks, looking forward to some more high level sailing tomorrow....

Weymonth Pre-Training

In sunny Weymonth for the start of the Sail for Gold event starting today. I arrived into Weymonth three days ago in preparation for sailing in the "Sail for Gold" regatta. Day one I arrived down the yacht club for 30knot+ gusts with a 25knot average, with these types of conditions I soon forgot about the jetlag problem, rigged up and screamed out to the starting area. We all sailed out for 30min downwind towards the course area in a lot of breeze so you can image how far the course is away from the harbour (LONG way). We had a great day with 30girls out racing, I was going fast so no worries with speed. Day Two we had a short traning session just outside the harbour...

Europe Tour Update 2010

I am now back in Australia after three months in Europe. Overall it was a pretty successful tour, with a 4th in Scheveningen Week, 5th Holland Regatta, 6th Kiel Regatta. My last event was the World Championships in Largs, Scotland where I finished in the back of the Gold fleet. It was a tough event and probably one of those regattas you look back on and learn a lot from. The event was running over 6 days but we only got proper racing in on the first 3 days. This teaches you how important the first few races of a regatta can be. Worlds 2010 Largs, Scotland was a very frontal venue that either had loads of wind or none at all. Day Two of Gold Fleet Finals and No Racing

Well this has been one of those regatta where things just don't seem to go your way. Over the past couple of days we have had winds from all directions, up and down. Largs is a very frontal cloud orientated venue and I just haven't been getting on the right side of the shifts. Yesterdays racing was extremely up and down and in hind sight according to the race committee really should have been abandoned. Today we sailed out at 11am to sit and wait for wind, we waited 5hours then towed back into the yacht club. Tomorrow they are planning to have three races starting at 10am fingers crossed. I am sitting well down the leader board in gold fleet so we definitely have some work...

Today was a day for keeping your eyes out of the boat to see whats coming. I am reasonably happy with today's progress as it was very tricky. The wind was shifting anyway between 20-30degree, up & down pressure in pockets all over the course around 5-10knots. I was in the first yellow fleet of the day which was great as I was able to get a few more practice starts in as the race committee were starting then relaying the course. The breeze was funneling off the land through the hills and we also had a few rain clouds just to keep us on our toes.
