Fitness Training and Sailing in Fort Lauderdale

Krystal has been training with Mark, Marit and Lisa over the past two weeks in Fort Lauderdale. It has been a great couple of weeks, training hard on the water and having some fun in the gym. Yesterday Marit and I headed off for a boxing lesson with Kevin and Jesus @ H.I.T Fitness Warehouse. It was great to learn how to box, kick, work hard and have a great time doing it ( Thanks Boys!) Training Miami and Fort Lauderdale

Over the past week Krystal has been training down in Miami with current world number one Marit from the Netherlands and coach Mark Little John. After Miami OCR regatta I took a few days out to travel and take some R and R before getting back into it for Fort Lauderdale and Clear water regattas. It was just a short trip to New York, catching up with old sailing friends and being a true tourist. I made sure I ticked all the boxes. Brooklyn Bridge, Times Square, Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, Grand Central Station and Central Park. Back in Miami I trainined with Marit, Lisa Ross (CAN) and Anna Tunnicliff (USA). Day Two Miami OCR

Yesterday was from the SE 105* around 15-18knots. It was a great day for full on hiking, as speed was everything in these conditions. I finished with a 5th and 7th placing. In the second race I was sitting in fourth before sliding back on the last run. Right now the full rigs are onshore so we will have to see what time the Radials get out there to race. Today is Australia Day and the Team is celebrating with a team dinner tonight at the Chart house. Good Times!...

Today we had 8-12knots from the NE. There is a great depth of girls over in Miami which is great leading into the European summer. I ended with a 15th and 10th overall, currently sitting in 11th overall. Looking forward to more racing tomorrow. Krystal is over in Miami, USA for the Rolex Miami OCR Regatta. This is the second regatta of the ISAF World Cup Series for 2011. Hi All, Five days ago I arrived into Miami for the Rolex OCR Regatta. I have been training from the US Sailing centre with the American Laser Radial Team of Paige Railey and Sarah Lihan along with US coach Luther. We have one more day of training and then racing begins on the 23rd-29th January. Australian Laser Championship 2011. It was a dark and stormy day at Georges River for the penultimate day of the Australian Laser Championship. Two major systems passed through the course disturbing the wind direction and causing a lot of effort on behalf of the race committee to re-lay the course to each major shift. Two races were successfully completed and everyone was happy to be home and dry after a long, cold, wet day on the water. Tom Burton’s lead in the Laser Standard fleet was reduced by Christoph Bottoni (SUI) winning both races. Austria’s, Andreas Geritzer sits in third place ahead of Rutger Schaardenburg from the Netherlands. The second placed Australian is Ash Brunning in fifth with five points over sixth placed Ryan Palk. Australian Laser Championship Day 4. The Laser fleet had a blast on the first day of the New Year with the first race was started in 16 knots and finished in 25 knots. By the time the second race should have started the race committee were recording winds up to 30 knots and so the decision was made to abandon racing and send the sailors home. The last day of 2010 on Botany Bay was picture perfect with clear blue skies, 28 degrees and a mid strength sea breeze. At the mid way point in the Championship, sailors from Western Australia lead in both the Laser 4.7 and Laser Radial class. The first U21 in the Laser Standard is also from WA with Mark Whittington in eight overall. The Laser 4.7 fleet has a record 45 entries this year. The class is growing in strength all around the Country. Many have been sold by the simple steps of progressing from junior to Olympic sailing with the boats’ three different sized rigs creating minimal cost in upgrading.
