H2O Academy Coaching

What a great couple of days up on Lake Macquarie with 9 keen female laser sailors. We were able to race through all the basics of laser sailing in 2 days. I am sure all the girls are overloaded with information to the max after a speedy two days. We even had a participant fly in from Hong Kong. Its so fantastic to see some really keen & talented females on the water. Great Job Laura Baldwin for putting on such a great camp. http://www.h2o-sports-academy.com/#!sailing-better/cjpd...

Bic Open Youth OTB Sandringham

It was a great weekend of training down at Sandringham for the Open Bic Youth training day. Supported by OTB Marine who organised everything and made it happen. It was really nice to give back to Sandringham & to Sailing.  I really enjoyed taking the kids through some core points about starting. I even had a sail and found out  how slippery & skatey a Bic is. Looking forward to seeing the worlds come to Melbourne in 2016 http://www.syc.com.au http://otbmarine.com.au/www/home/ https://www.facebook.com/pages/2015-Open-Bic-World-CupMelbourne-Australia/1437511646530081    ...

Weight Gain Am I fit enough?

With the new season about to start. It is time to go back to basics. Firstly by asking yourself; Am I fit enough?  Am I the right size for my sport? If you're not the right size for your sport it's really difficult compete at the top level. Specifically sailing is a sport that requires a narrow range to work in. If you are below the ideal weight limit then you will only be competitive in the light winds and be basically ruling yourself out of the competition before it even starts. After the Beijing Olympics I was 57kg sailing the Yngling. In preparation for 2012 London Olympics in the Laser radial class I had to gain 10kg to be back competitive again.  Goal: Laser boys are looking to be 78-82kg...

ISAF Worlds Wrap UP

Over the past week Krystal has been competing at the ISAF Worlds in Spain. Krystal finished 39th overall out of 120boats.  Over the past week I have been competing in Santander in Spain for the ISAF Worlds. It has been a tough week of tricky variable conditions from all directions. During this event I couldn't really find my form, I finished inside Gold fleet and was the only Aussie to qualify but this wasn't enough to get the country qualified for the Olympics. This year for me has been a mix between cat sailing and Laser sailing.  I was able to sail in the Viper Worlds and Hobie16 Europeans. My overall time spent in the Laser was minimal as I jumped back into the class 6months ago...
