It has been a big year of sailing. Traveling to the US, Spain, Germany, Finland, UK & back to Aus. I have posted good scores 2nd Kiel Germany, 3rd Sail Melbourne, 8th Test Event. The ISAF World Championships has just finished up in Perth, Australia posted some excellent results from Tom (Laser), Matt & Mal (470), Nathan & Goobs (49er)..check it out on www.australiansailingteam.com.au It was great to see the Australian Laser Squad really step it up posting very good results overall. What a great finish! I am happy to finally pull my skills together and get up to the pointy end of the fleet. I had a great start at the pin, put my bow down fast and sent it towards the left. There was a great group of spectators on the wall to help cheer me on! Thankyou!! I hiked hard till the end but the Irish girl slipped inside me which resulted in a second place. The early race of the day I had a tough one which meant that I wasn't able to climb up the leader board. I finished a disappointing 19th overall. Laura and I are now onto the program review for LONDON. The good news is that I have qualified Australia...

Tough Times in Perth

Yesterday was just one of those day where things just don't go your way. I have had a very interesting series with some ok results and some mid-fleet scores. We were split into Gold, Silver fleets (51 boats) yesterday. I was handed out my second yellow flag yesterday after the jury said I was rocking. In 20knots of wind, rocking isnt really any faster so not sure what I was doing? The second race of the day I was sitting around mid-teens when a massive 30degree shift on the last beat put be back in 33rd. The last race, I finally got my act together to post a 13th. Currently sitting in 20th overall. We have a rest day today before two more races in Gold...

Update on Perth Training, Sail Melbourne, Training at VIS & SYC adventures. Over the past two months Laura (my coach) and I have had two camps in Perth with Marit Bouwmeester of the Netherlands for Worlds preparation. Perth is the venue for the ISAF Worlds which is the Olympic country nomination and selection. The first camp was for two weeks and the second was a four-day racing regatta where we invited only the top girls to compete. Laura and I took the time to really settle into Fremantle and to find all our favourite spots in preparation for Worlds Back at home I have been in solid training with Johnny Rodgers of the VIS along with Jeremy O’Connell my training partner. After a Great Opening Day down at SYC I thought I would Update you all on my latest training leading into London. Sydney Camps, AIS Camps, NTC Opening and the latest on my new coach Laura Baldwin. I am back and definitely into the swing of things. I am now full time training in the Gym at VIS and on-water sessions down at SYC. The Perth Worlds (Olympic Qualifiers) are only 63 Days away so the focus is purely on sailing. Over the past week I traveled up to Sydney for a Laser Camp with the full rig boys and Michael Blackburn (Guru Laser Coach).  We had a tough week of four hour days of hiking & downwinds. After 7 weeks in US, 6 weeks Europe, home then 3 months in the UK & Europe. I am finally home training out of Sandringham Yacht Club in Melbourne. We now have 86 days until the Worlds in Perth. I am back in VIS training in the Gym, SYC with Johnny & the Laser Squad. Later this month I will be up in Sydney for a training camp with the Full Rigs and then off to AIS Canberra for an AST Fitness Camp. The Worlds at the end of the Year is a critical event that decides country nomination and team qualification for the Olympics in 2012. Looking forward to the hours of hiking ahead in the build up.
