Update Sail Melbourne 2010- 8th Overall, 2nd Medal Race

It has been a hectic couple of weeks down at Sandringham Yacht Club for the annual ISAF Grade One World Cup ‘Sail Melbourne’. The usual 15knot seabreeze didn’t eventuate during the whole regatta so we had to settle for max 5knots shifting from the West. I had a mixed regatta having moments right up the front with a 3rd in race one and a 2nd in the medal race. In the end I had to settle for 8th overall, it is a good start to the season and one that I can build on for the upcoming regattas. The VIS were extremely supportive during the event providing coaching support for me during the event with Sarah B and Johnny R. Next Stop is Miami, USA training with...

Sail Sydney 2010 Krystal finishes 3rd overall

In the Laser Radial class Krystal Weir started the day in fourth position, six points behind Claire Blom of the Netherlands. Weir had the better day of the two with a seventh and a fourth to take the Bronze medal. “I’m really happy with the regatta’s result, it was a good comeback from being in 10th overall,” said Weir. “At the start of the week I was trying some new things, some were working and some weren’t but it all came together in the end.”  “Results weren’t really the focus for this regatta, it was about working on my technique and then today it was about doing what I know is right,” she said. “I haven’t raced properly in a while and this week was a great...

Training in Melbourne

Over the past two weeks I have been back home in Melbourne training for Sail Melbourne. We have had a great squad of Radials training from Sandringham Yacht Club with Johnny, Oli and Sarah from the VIS. Sarah Lihan from the USA joined in the training also. I have been back training with Bruce at Balance & Control Pilates and Sara Picton at PRP. It has been fantastic getting back into a steady routine again. http://www.pocketrocketproductions.com.au/ http://www.balancecontrolpilates.com/ I am now about to head back to Sydney for 'Sydney International Regatta', be great to get back into some top level racing. ...

Latest News from Krystal in November

It has been a hectic couple of months since my last update. I returned from the UK after ‘Sail for Gold’ regatta and jumped straight back into University. Assignments, Exams, Hospital Placement at Prince of Wales Hospital, this has been my life for the past 6 months. Physiotherapy work at Sydney Uni has now finished and it is time to start full time training for the upcoming Laser season. In amongst the study I was able to do training from Double Bay Sailing Club and Middle Harbour Amateurs, compete in the Australian University Games and the recent NSW States Titles. During September, I sailed with the Sydney University crew in Perth for the Australian University Championships (Match Racing). My main role on the boat was mainsheet trim...

Double Bay Sailing Pre-Spring Regatta 1st

Krystal finishes first at Pre-Spring Regatta at Double Bay Sailing Club on Sydney Harbour. It is great to be home! I have been back in Australia for a week and I just couldn’t help myself. Double Bay Sailing Club was having there annual sprint regatta over two days 21-22nd August. It is a great little club tucked inside the harbour right near the Sydney Harbour Bridge. As Sydney Harbour is well populated, all the building provided a great funneling effect for the breeze. It is certainly a tricky venue with shifts from all directions. Day One was 20+ knots with gusts to 30knots, quite a few people went for a couple of swims and I have to say I was close at times.  I finished the day with a 1,2,1,2. It was great...
