Weight Gain Am I fit enough?

With the new season about to start. It is time to go back to basics. Firstly by asking yourself; Am I fit enough?  Am I the right size for my sport? If you're not the right size for your sport it's really difficult compete at the top level. Specifically sailing is a sport that requires a narrow range to work in. If you are below the ideal weight limit then you will only be competitive in the light winds and be basically ruling yourself out of the competition before it even starts. After the Beijing Olympics I was 57kg sailing the Yngling. In preparation for 2012 London Olympics in the Laser radial class I had to gain 10kg to be back competitive again.  Goal: Laser boys are looking to be 78-82kg...

ISAF Worlds Wrap UP

Over the past week Krystal has been competing at the ISAF Worlds in Spain. Krystal finished 39th overall out of 120boats.  Over the past week I have been competing in Santander in Spain for the ISAF Worlds. It has been a tough week of tricky variable conditions from all directions. During this event I couldn't really find my form, I finished inside Gold fleet and was the only Aussie to qualify but this wasn't enough to get the country qualified for the Olympics. This year for me has been a mix between cat sailing and Laser sailing.  I was able to sail in the Viper Worlds and Hobie16 Europeans. My overall time spent in the Laser was minimal as I jumped back into the class 6months ago...

Krystal Weir back to full time competition post Anterior Labral Tear repair

Krystal Weir is a two time Olympic Sailor in the Laser (2008 & 2012) and World Champion. During her campaign she suffered right chronic hip pain that slowly progressed due to increased loading and poor stability. Trish Wisbey-Roth formulated a plan for Krystal to follow in 2013 to get her back in the boat. In 2012; the Australian Sailing Team Physiotherapist Donna White and her team of Lucy Tighe and Fiona Miller helped to maintain Krystal's body throughout her campaign to London 2012. Once she finished her sailing Physiotherapist Wendy Braybon suggested that Krystal speak with Trish Wisby-Roth and begin her rehab to extend Krystal's carrier in Sailing and general quality of life. Viper Worlds Erquy France

Over the past week I have been competing at the Viper Worlds in Erquy in France. I was sailing with Andy Dinsdale from France VSR. We had great racing with 37 Vipers buzzing around. Overall the regatta was predominately light winds and tricky conditions. Andy & I finished 12th overall and second best placed Aussie with Dan & Nath in 4th. Congratulations to the French team of Emmanuel & Eric for winning the regatta. I want to thank Mark Stichbury-Cooper from Viper New Zealand for helping make it all happen. ...

Europeans & Holland Wrap Up

It has been a busy couple of months traveling around Europe.  Firstly Holland Regatta where I finished 12th and Europeans Croatia where I was delivered two yellow flags to drop me right down the ranks of Gold Fleet.  I decided to come over to Europe earlier then originally planned to help  give me an indicator of where to focus my training. It has been a great adventure to find out my strengths and weakness's. I had a great block of training with my new coach Jared West and the Australian Sailing Squad. It has been great being back on the circuit and apart of a team again. Croatia for me was the biggest learning curve. Where my lack of time on water was evident. The level of competition has...
