Heading to Sail Melbourne with Harken & Zhik

Exciting times are coming as Sail Melbourne is only around the corner! I will be competing in the Laser Radial at my home sailing club Sandringham Yacht Club. Cant wait to get back out there on the race course. Harken and Zhik have come onboard as my new sponsors supporting me with the Laser Radial and the Hobie16 Worlds in Jervis Bay in February. ...

Amaroo Cruise

Make sure you head down to Amaroo cruise down at Forster! It was a great day of fun on the Whale watching boat. We set out at 10am leaving from a dock in the town centre. We then enjoyed a slow cruise through the oyster beds, past dolphins & set off out to sea to see some amazing whales. It was a great day and I highly recommend a visit when you are in the great lakes area....

Wild Cat @ Forster Great Lakes

WildCat Regatta was a fantastic event; great weather, great wind and great fun!             Over the long weekend down at Forster Great Lakes Sailing Club I competed in the Hobie 16 Cat in preparation for the worlds that are coming up in February. I was sailing with young Paige Caldecoat and at 12years of age and 45kg she did really well. My crew for the worlds Kingsley was busy running the courses on the commiteeboat. Local NEWS The Wildcat regatta is an annual event that hosts catamaran sailors from all over Australia. Everybody camps down at the club with lots of social fun. Day one we had moderate breeze where we posted a 9th, DNC and a 10th. We were coming third in our second heat but our block...

Maricat States Queenslake

Last weekend was the Maricat State Titles down at Queenslake Sailing Club in NSW. It was a great event with the wind providing us with 5- 12knots of breeze & some very close competition. I finished 4th overall, I cant complain as I only spent three days in the boat prior. Congratulations to Michael Colecliffe for winning the Super Sloop, 2nd Rohan Nosworthy and Mark Colecliffe. Big thank you to my sponsor MidCoast Sails for providing me with great gear, I was definitely going fast :) & Zhik for there ongoing support Thanks to Mark and Martina for there work on setting the course, & the volunteers down at the club. Great Job and Great Racing!        ...

Sailing up North!

Krystal is up in Norther NSW jumping onboard different catamarans, learning the ropes.  Over the past three month I have been posted for work up in Kempsey NSW for three months with my physiotherapy job. In the mean time I have meet some amazing people who have introduced me to many different types of cat sailing. Over at the Great Lakes Sailing Club in Foster, John White and his sons Caleb & Ethan have been introducing me to the Hobie 16. It is a great club hidden in amongst palm trees in the middle of the bush. Kingsley Pursch who helps run the show down there is a keen cat sailor and my new crew for the Hobie 16 Open Worlds in Jervis bay in February. Frank O'Rourke...

Summer Time

It has been a new and exciting couple of months for me. I have been switching and jumping around classes to explore what is new on the circuit. I jumped back into the Laser to do Sail Melbourne at my home club at Sandringham Y.C. It was a mixed condition event with every tricky direction including the a massive westerly of 25knots with monster waves. I finished up with a solid lead of 22points to Singapore and Sui. After Sail Sydney I took part in the FX 49er camp with Yachting Australia. The boat is fantastic and exciting to sail, requires a lot of balance and boat handling. In January I sailed the Viper 16foot catamaran with Brett Goodall. We finished a creditable 7th place and was leading...

The Australian "Sailor takes rocky road to golden waters"

THE biggest improvements you make are when you are forced outside your comfort zone. That is the mantra that has driven Laser Radial sailor Krystal Weir for most of her journey to a second Olympic Games. It is a journey that, courtesy of her first coach Lex Bertrand, has sometimes been intentionally rocky and occasionally even gone backwards. "He was always about pushing the limits and doing things out of the box," Weir, 27, told The Weekend Australian. "We used to do a lot of crazy things. "The good thing about Port Phillip Bay is that it's quite big and you can tow out to the middle of the bay and no one can really see what you're doing. "Lex used to put a rope around my mast and tow...
